In addition to our pop-ups two businesses have provided space for our books.
Journeyman in Downtown Decatur
Known as a center for coffee, bicycle repairs, cycling sales & accessories and a place to hang. Journeyman is open everyday but Monday. In addition to books about bicycles and cycling trips, we included some favorite of our books such as:
The Drunken Botanist by Amy Stewart.
In this slick 10th anniversary edition, Stewart, in her humorous and informative way, looks at the plants that create world famous drinks.
Entangled Species by Merlin Sheldrake.
Sheldrake provides a readable overview of how fungi have played an unheralded pivotal role in the planet’s ecosystem. He includes chapters on defining the fungi (e.g., truffles) and how they operate in labyrinths underneath our feet. There is a chapter on lichen (which are well suited for space travel BTW), the long history of hallucinogenic mushrooms, and the possibilities of mushrooms being used to combat pollution and soil contamination.
The Fruit Forgers Companion by Sara Bir.
A guide to the local fruit that is available in your neighborhood and how you can preserve it through fermentation, freezing or turning into tasty desserts. The book has an informal you-can-do-this tone without being arrested for trespassing or giving yourself a gut ache for failing to recognize what exactly you are picking.
The Art of Touch Massage in Midtown Atlanta
In the lobby of The Art of Touch Massage, Destination: Books has provided books that may interest those in nurturing a healthier lifestyle. Books include:
Blue Zones, Secrets of Living Longer by Dan Buettner.
Blue zones are places around the world where higher percentages of people enjoy remarkably long, full lives. This illustrated guide includes lessons, top longevity foods and behaviors that these zones share.
The Kew Series of Pocketbooks
Artistry made available from the Royal Botanical Gardens' Kew Library and Archives. Each book focuses on a certain family of plants such Wildflowers and Fungi. Relaxing books to "read" to say the least.
Fungi features the work of Elsie Wakefield (1886 -1972), a pioneer female scientist and artist who was the President of the British Mycological Society. (Did you know that children’s author Beatrix Potter was also a mycologist?)
Bringing Nature Home by Douglas Tallamy
Tallamy explains how everyone can welcome more wildlife into their yards just by planting even a few native plants. With fascinating explanations and extensive lists of native plants for regional habitats, this scientifically researched book can help us all to make a difference.
NOTE: As of January 2, 2024 - Destination: Books is no longer supplying books to Art of Touch Massage. This experiment did not work out.
Final Pop-up of the year Rescheduled
Saturday the December 9th was a real washout for us, but Saturday morning December 16th looks promising. Hope to see you at the Carter Center's Freedom Farmer's Market. Help us rinse away this memory.
